  • Child support and custody cases
  • Immigration and family reunification
  • Adding or removing a parent from a birth certificate
  • Peace-of-mind (informational) paternity testing

How it works.

A simple, guided process from scheduling to secure results—whether you’re a parent, driver, employer, or attorney.

Step 1 — Schedule

Select the service you need and request an appointment time. Our team confirms your details, explains what documents to bring, and clarifies whether you need a legal or informational test.

Step 2 — Visit Collection Site

Arrive at your scheduled time for a quick, professional collection. DNA tests typically use cheek swabs; drug screens follow DOT or non-DOT protocols, as required. Chain-of-custody documentation is created where needed.

Step 3 — Get Results

Most DNA results are available within 2 business days after the lab receives your samples. Drug testing turnaround varies by test type. Results are delivered securely to you and, if authorized, to your employer, attorney, or agency.

Frequently asked questions.

If you don’t see your question here, use the Nichols Diagnostics assistant (bottom-right chat) or call our office and we’ll walk you through your options.

What’s the difference between a legal DNA test and an informational DNA test?

A legal DNA test follows strict chain-of-custody procedures, uses accredited labs, and produces a report that can be used in court for child support, custody, immigration, and other official matters. Everyone being tested must present identification, and collections are witnessed. An informational DNA test is for your personal knowledge only; it does not follow the same legal documentation requirements and is generally not accepted by courts or government agencies.

Are Nichols Diagnostics DNA results accepted in court?

Yes. Nichols Diagnostics works with AABB-accredited and ISO 17025 / A2LA-certified laboratories and maintains proper chain-of-custody. When you schedule, let us know that you need a legal DNA test so we can set up the correct collection and documentation for court-admissible results.

How long does it take to get DNA results?

Most standard relationship DNA tests are reported within 2 business days after the lab receives all required samples. Complex or specialized tests may take longer; your coordinator will review expected timelines before your appointment so you can plan for hearings or filing deadlines.

Are my results confidential?

Yes. Your results are handled securely and are only shared with the individuals and organizations you authorize, such as an attorney, court, employer, or government agency. We do not release results to anyone else without your written permission or a valid court order.

Do you offer DOT-compliant drug testing?

Yes. Nichols Diagnostics provides DOT-compliant urine drug testing that meets FMCSA, PHMSA, and other DOT agency requirements. We support pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and SAP follow-up testing, and can coordinate with employers and TPAs.

How much do your tests cost?

Our standard legal DNA tests are typically $400, and DOT-compliant drug screens are typically $180. Pricing for non-standard samples and custom employer or legal programs can vary. Before you book, we will confirm your test type, pricing, and payment or billing arrangements so there are no surprises.

Can you work directly with my attorney, court, or employer?

Yes. We frequently coordinate with attorneys, courts, child services, employers, and government agencies. With your authorization, we can send results directly to them, set up standing orders, or establish billing relationships to simplify your process.
